Photo Diary: Wat Khao Krailas in Hua Hin, Thailand

Monday, January 26, 2015

During our short stay in Hua Hin we took the chance to visit my great grandfather who is buried at a very old temple called Wat Khao Krailas that is located on a small hill.

To reach this temple you have to climb lots of stairs, like around 100+. Don't forget to bring your water since it's hot and humid! As soon as you reach the top you feel a slightly cool breeze which feels refreshing. When the sun starts to shine some trees can give you shade.

Here are the stairs that you have to climb up. Well, in this picture I was on the way out :)

Fish ponds, water lilies, and other beautiful flowers such as Frangipanis can be found there. On one hand this temple is very beautiful, quiet and peaceful and not too many tourists were in sight which is kind of good. On the other hand, since there are barely people up there, some of them take the chance to steel certain precious and antique things which is kind of sad. They need to secure this place a little.

We left flower garlands (Phuang Malai) for our great grandfather. After praying and remembering him we went to the other side of this place where you can get a nice view of the beach.

Next to us was a huge Buddha statue that is looking towards the sea.

Up there you can discover another hill, the "Monkey Mountain" which I will post about it soon. After seeing the nice beach and the hill we didn't stay there too long because we were invited for dinner at my great aunt's house :)

  1. All the pictures look amazing! I really love the view you had. It's too bad that people would steal from such a sacred area. :( Thanks for sharing!
